Hangers

Words are to things
as hangers to dresses,
hoisting sheer substance
on structure and form.
Though one may seem
singular, simple to hook,
they come out entangled
in raveling chains.
Later, abandoned,
they twist in the dark,
still quietly chiming
after you're gone.
